- Tierra del Fuego

Early morning departure, just heading south.

Mountains are only bald on top. This is the visible forest limit.

The truck drove through the unchanging landscape without any music. After exhausting my Spanish vocabulary, I was still comfortable in the car even with almost no conversation, perhaps because the driver was a professional in driving alone.

It is said that the beavers are increasing too much and destroying the forests. However, perhaps the proliferation of beavers is within the assumptions of the earth.

He was a very blunt driver, but he did voluntarily stop at places with excellent scenery.

Once, there was no place I really wanted to go. Now, I don't know why, but there are so many places I want to go.

- Ushuaia

Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. A place where you can genuinely yearn for faraway places.

At the home of Ueno-san, who lives in the southernmost town in South America, we enjoyed fine soba noodles and the satellite Japanese TV program "The Year Going Out, The Year Coming In". The night filled with hard-to-find Japanese flavors was more like a traditional Japanese New Year's Eve than any other New Year's Eve I've ever experienced.

So many people must have come. So many things must have happened.

This cold, this dimness, not bad. Because they make me feel the home very warm.

"The end of the world" just means "the end of the world map." I am now just at the bottom of the world map that we often see.

All the way over there is Antarctica.

Hot pot, yakitori, and raw rainbow trout, New Year's dishes need to be sumptuous.

It slowly took its present form as it was patched and pieced together. A traveler's house that ever grows like a living thing.

Heavy machinery in the harbor, wild dogs over there, wind in my ears. I am leaving this city, hearing the same sounds as the day I arrived.

Now, I am about to head north again. In other words, from here, I am on my way home.
