[vol.1]  [vol.2]  [vol.3]  [vol.4]  [vol.5]  [vol.6]  [vol.7]

- Varanasi

Bathing in the Ganges at sunrise for the first time in 10 years. With the feel of mud on my soles, all sound disappeared.

Come to think of it, 10 years ago, I didn't know yet about the death of someone close to me.

It says that immersing oneself in the Ganges is to commune with the dead. But in this river, my grandma is not here, my grandpa is also not here. And when I realized that, this river became just a river for me.

The bathing of those who laugh at Hinduism is also watched over.

A building on the edge of a river that seems to await the day it will one day flow through the Ganges.

The sun is the sun, a fixed star born in a corner of the universe. A river is a river, a path of rainwater connecting mountains and oceans. Neither the sun nor the river is the answer of that ultimate question.

Bye-bye.

- to Nautanwa -

I easily finished the tasteless dish and which made me find myself in the midst of a good time.

Thanks to heat cooking.

Even a single sticker can bring something to life.

The Curiosity.

A bus stop where I stand only once in my life. This place will always be dusk for me.

The chime sounded, probably as usual.

- The Border

Messy immigration as expected.

- to Varanasi -

When I am on the bus for more than a day, I easily understand that yesterday, today, and tomorrow are all connected by a line.

- Varanasi

10 years passed. It was all like a joke. It was like a scene I saw yesterday, and I felt no nostalgia. My 10 years passed so quickly that I could have easily crushed them in a moment.

A busy staircase I took a picture one day. It was strangely too quiet today.

Was the graffiti on the wall like this? I don't recognize what is the same and what has changed as my eyes of 10 years ago are no longer anywhere to be found.

Oh well they weren't born yet. It's a wonder I know this city 10 years ago that these kids don't.

The red powder sold on the street is Sindoor, which women wear on their foreheads. I hope that this kind of normalcy, unique to this place, will never disappear.

Move aside, great cows go by.

God has to be a little scary.

Since sometime, perhaps many things are made with more time spent on decoration than on their function.

A ceremony held every evening on the banks of the Ganges. My sight is the lanterns flowing down the river, and my hearing is the voices reciting sutras. I am floating with my eyes and ears open.

Someone is someone's wife, someone is someone's child and grandchild, someone is someone's cousin and re-cousin, they are all connected.

The pleasant aroma that fills this city is that of fragrant wood burning human bodies.

The smoke from the fragrant wood does not cease for 24 hours. That's how many people there are. They are born, they die, and they are born again.

No matter what I leave behind in the name of "proof of life," my dead self will never know it. I cannot take anything with me to the afterlife. Even though I know this, I am not strong or wise enough to live empty-handed.

- Varanasi

No roof is needed during the dry season.

Neighborhood family.

Rather, what makes them different from us?

Seniors on this stairway.

They are not innocent and that's fine.

May it be a future that expands.

The moon also melts into the river where everything melts.

If I had been told that that was God when I knew nothing about the world, I would have started bathing in peace without hesitation. I might have been willing to sink into this river to be blessed everyday by that sun.

It's just a tiny little river that flows through a small part of the earth.

Delhi

The room I visited a few months ago smells completely different now.

I can't stop feeling like taking a walk until I close the curtains.

Something that only exists in the middle of the night.

- Kolkata

If you come a long way, everything can be a treat. But, what is tasteless is still tasteless.

Thanks for the meal.

It didn't have to be this specific place. The shutter that I pressed to remember the smell of this not-so-special city as if to create a table of contents of my memory.

We waited at the station for a train that was said to be running a little late. In no time at all, five hours had passed.

I never get tired of the days of encounters. Said someone I met on my trip.

- Varanasi

A rooftop where you can accelerate time.

Purple smoke rising from the tip of a cigarette, white smoke spilling from a half-open mouth, two colors of smoke mixing and filling the small room. It is an afternoon that is filled with smoke at least, even if we cannot find any meaning or reason for a day.

The surface of the water reflecting the rising sun turns yellow-green for a moment. I should have known this, but I had forgotten until this moment.

People were being burned in a crematorium a little downstream from the bathing area.

I'm here.

Disappearing, all of it, in the blink of an eye.
