I was invited to a PLO family for lunch. In a room with pictures of Jerusalem, I was told many stories. I had thought I was no one's enemy, but if I was no one's ally, I might as well be the enemy of all.
PLOの家庭に昼食に招かれた。エルサレムの写真が掛けられた部屋で、いろんな話を聞かされた。誰の敵でもないつもりだったけど、誰の味方にもなっていないとしたら、すべての敵なのかもしれない。
I was given a box of candies to accompany me on my travel. I was surprised at his sudden kindness, but what he said to me was just a word of appreciation to Allah. His act of thanking Allah made this disbeliever feel warm. That is probably not bad.
旅のお供にとキャンディひと箱。突然の親切に驚く僕にかけられたのは、アラーへの感謝の言葉。アラーに向けた行為が、不信者を優しい気持ちにさせる。それは、たぶん不幸なことじゃない。

I left my disposable camera with the kids. The pictures of a few dozen centimeters lower gaze remind me a little of my world long ago.
子供たちに使い捨てカメラを預けた。数十センチ低い視線の写真は、ずっと昔の世界を少しだけ思い出させてくれる。
Everyone sees the world differently. There must be so many different fascinating things.
みんな違う世界を見ている。面白いことは山ほどあるはず。
Even though we live in different places, our memories of the way home may be similar.

Unable to find a place to stay, I was allowed to sleep in the garden of the restaurant. I stayed in the kitchen until I got sleepy, helping with the preparation for tomorrow and indulging in a water pipe.
宿が見つからず、レストランの庭で寝かせてもらうことに。眠くなるまで厨房に居座って仕込みを手伝ったり水煙草をふかす夜。
