The special seat was on the roof of a train. In the chilly early morning air, the departure whistle echoed through the small town.
特等席は貨物車両の屋根の上。早朝の冷たい空気の中、出発の汽笛が小さな街に響いた。
After leaving the city, the train slowly winds its way through the mountains. It is still too early to speak. I'm blissfully nibbling silently on a chocolate bar in my fleece jumper.
街を抜け、列車はゆっくり山々を縫う。言葉を発するには、まだ早い。フリースジャンパーの中で黙々とチョコバーをかじる至福の時。
Customers, crew, and peddlers are all on the roof, and the train coach is empty.
客も乗務員も物売りも屋根の上。車両は空っぽ。

Every day, on the roof of the train, the boy sells chocolates to travelers who have only one-way ticket.
毎日、屋根の上でチョコレートを売る。片道切符しか持たない人たちを眺めながら。
