I instantly fell in love with this city. As I got off the long-distance bus, I knew intuitively that I loved the colors and the temperature of this city. The first conversation I had asking for directions surprised me by making me fall in love with the locals as well.
A construction worker shouted in Japanese from a little distance away to me who was comfortably intoxicated by the irregular rhythm of this city while looking at a homeless man who kept talking something one way to a policeman talking to a woman while smoking a little marijuana sold in a heap on the street beside the driver who was reluctantly giving money to a street child who wiped the window of his car at a stoplight. OHAYO!
In this city, there were bars on the windows and many soldiers and policemen walking around watching over the city. It was not too safe, that's what attracted me.
Molotov cocktails and armored cars, onlookers watching like a show. The boundary between the ordinary and the extraordinary is not clear to me as a passerby.
At a weekend flea market, I sold my Walkman and bought a small boombox. Listening to music through earphones had become too constricting.
For some reason, I remember mostly sunset colors.

The windows were filled with the Andes Mountains when a small monitor inside the bus was showing "Titanic".
I thought it would be nice to just lay down and melt away in this place where there is nothing but earth.
